Uzbekistan: Parliament discredited the president
On March 22, 2021, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev: “Criticize! If you have been given a task, why are you not doing it, take out your family name and PICTURE and show it, so that the whole world will know. You know, it affects more than three or four decisions. Your strength is great,” he called on journalists to be active.
On November 28, 2023, the deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a law that provides the basis for bringing to justice those who logically followed the president’s call.
That is, if citizens, in particular, journalists, take photos or videos of law enforcement officials while performing their duties and post them on the Internet, this will be considered defamation and may result in an administrative fine of up to 15 days in prison.
Now, those who have not enough power to speak accuse the president of hypocrisy, they are lying. They are laughing at the glorious slogan “Irreversible reforms on freedom of speech”. Is it about stupid MPs or something else?
